America (1820)
Map of America by German cartographer J.M.F. Schmidt published in Berlin in 1820. Shows an unknown Alaskan Coastline and speculative NW Passage, and excellent post-Lewis & Clark details in the Pacific Northwest, with particular attention to the mountain ranges. Two Great Lakes (Timpanagos and Teguayo) shown,. Speculative San Felipe River flows from the two lakes to San Francisco. The course of the Missouri and its tributaries is very unusual and inviting to travel to the west.
In that time there were just four big countries: USA, British America (today Canada), Spanish America (from northern California to Tierra del Fuego in the southernmost tip of the South American mainland) and the Portuguese colony of Brazil. The borders between them are clearly visible
