Ontario (1825)

Engraved by James G. Chewett as a "Map of the province of Upper Canada and the adjacent territories in North America: shewing the districts counties and townships in which are situated the lands purchased from the Crown by the Canada Company Incorporated". This map is famous primarily because it shows the extent of the Canada Company lands. Those lands, former provincial government reserves, were a thorny political problem for many years. To the right of the title is a model of the distribution of the lands in a township. For 30 years, this was the most comprehensive map of the province.
