"Il designo del discoperto della Nova Franza" by Paolo Forlani, ca. 1566. One of the first maps of North America to note the name "Canada". The name previously appeared on Paolo Forlani’s map of the world. One can read "La Nova Franza," "Canada pro.," "Terra Dellaborador," "Stadacone" (Quebec City), "Ochelaga" (Montreal), etc. on the map.
This is the first appearance of other names, such as the Anian Strait (Bering Strait) between North America and Asia, on a printed map.
